05/04/08- The beach: Five of us go to Fernandina Beach in Florida. We camp out on the sand, play with a glow stick for two hours, and make marshmallows at 3:00 in the morning. We come back with sun burns. Everyone hates Krystal's for a while. The first time I've ever been wasted on a beach.
05/08/08- LOST: The Puzzle: India and I begin working on the most complicated and ridiculous puzzle I have ever put together. In the style of LOST, the completed puzzle is supposed to give you a few answers and some cool revelations; they just don't give you a picture of the completed puzzle as a guide. We never finish...
05/29/08- The Chimes: The third collaboration with Dr. Kate Musgrove; we're a team! Great show, great cast, great crew; the most stressful show I've ever worked on, though. I nearly go crazy. It's a world premiere and the playwright is in attendance, as well. Our final dress rehearsal is canceled so we watch the Season 4 finale of LOST.06/02/08- The Strangers: Shitty movie. We lie to the people in the box office by telling them that we missed the movie and now we want our money back. We get refunds. Not such a shitty movie anymore.
06/09/08- Theatre History: Three-week intense course with Dr. Becky Becker. There are only four of us in the class, so I can't fall asleep and get away with it. The class ends up being a complete blast. Emily Dodson is my hero. It is also a great getaway for all of the things going on in my mind, at the time.
06/13/08- Urinetown: Summer and I venture to Atlanta to see our friend Stephen in Urinetown. My car breaks down on the way, thus creating "Peanut Butter & Road Jams" out of boredom. A great show, by the way. We are the loudest audience members. We say goodbye to Brittain and Dills for the summer.
06/25/08- Dune's Birthday Party: I almost kill everyone by drunkenly talking on my cell phone while swimming in a pool with a waterfall. My sister plans to make butter. Emily and I celebrate our final day of Theatre History by going to Red Lobster and skipping down Broadway.
06/27/08- The Perks of Being a Wallflower: I finish this fine book. It is simply amazing.
06/28/08- Mickey: Mickey and his friend come to Columbus. A few of us see The Happening and we aren't impressed. We make our way downtown and someone has spiked the fountain with bubbles. We play in the bubble fountain for a while before we sing karaoke at the bowling alley.
07/04/08- Fourth of July: A few friends gather on top of a parking deck. We are temporarily deaf by the fireworks that are being shot right over our heads.
07/05/08- Pride: Summer, Cathryn, and I head to Atlanta for the day. We've heard stories of how Pride "changes" people, in a euphoric-sense. We feel fine. I try sushi for the first time: octopus. Nasty! On the ride back, Summer and I create the second part of "Road Jams". Summer's parents also cook a wicked steak!
07/08/08- Chalk Drawings: The sidewalk in front of Picasso's Pizza is demolished with sidewalk artwork. It's super tacky, but there is so much love on the streets of Columbus tonight! I also write "I Love India" on the sidewalk outside of her apartment; something I stole from a movie.
07/10/08- Alliance: The casting director from the Alliance Theatre calls. They continue my contract for further readings and workshops for Class of 3000: Live. Everyone I run into gets a hug after this news.
07/12/08- We love Kelley: For the first time in a very long time, everyone (who is in Columbus) comes over and we have a great night. It's just a fun night with the people we love. I love my friends so much.
07/14/08- Fall out: Big falling out with my parents. Not cool. They take away funding for school. This journal wouldn't be honest if I didn't include everything, positive and negative, that happened this summer, right?
07/17/08- The Dark Knight: Everyone and their brother goes to see Batman. It's awesome. We take up an entire row in the movie theater. Everyone has a heart attack when that guy slams against the Mayor's office window. Heath Ledger is the man.
07/18/08- Senior Acting Recital: Summer, Evan, and Julious' recital. I stage manage and have a mini freak-out the day of the show, when some dude in the lobby threatens to kick us out. Ass.
07/20/08- Foreigners: Lena, India, and I drink and party with Larry McDonald's Danish friends. They spend about $200 on us. Probably the best weekend of the summer. I accidentally bump heads with Lena. I have a knot on my head in the morning. Also, I dance in a cage at Oxygen.
07/22/08- Go home: I patch things up with my parents. We make mutual decisions. They give me an i-pod.
07/27/08- Disney: Summer, India, and I go to Disney World on a whim. It's great. We drink around the world and live it up at Pleasure Island. The drive home is a killer, though.
08/06/08- Go home Pt. 2: I head home today. Tonight is a concert in Atlanta. And tomorrow, work with the Alliance begins. We'll be workshopping Class of 3000: Live for a week.
08/13/08- Moving: I'm moving downtown. I couldn't be more excited!
This summer has been quite productive, after all. I feel very privileged and thankful to have such great friends. I could only hope that everyone's summer has been wonderful and safe, as well. I'm super excited about this upcoming year and I'm so ready to get it started...
Love,
Jonathan
